Tripolar at The Whitney in artport: A History of Internet Art

My 2002 commission Tripolar will be included in artport: A History of Internet Art, opening November 21 at the Whitney at the Whitney Museum of American Art, opening November 21, 2026.

The interactive work traces the path of a simulated pendulum swinging above three magnets—a simple chaotic physical system as a metaphor for our mind’s sensitivity to small changes.

Tripolar was commissioned for the Whitney Museum of American Art in 2002 and is part of its permanent collection. It is part of the Dynamic Systems Series of interactive works for the screen, grounded in the laws of nature.
