Headlands Center for the Arts Artist’s Residency

This fall, I’m in residence at Headlands Center for the Arts, where I am creating and showing new work from Hidden Geometries, my ongoing series based on the sacred geometric grids underlying Tibetan Buddhist thangka paintings.

The project brings together traditional mineral-pigment painting with real-time generative digital works, large-scale LED displays, and projections. It grows from more than twenty-five years of Buddhist practice and my study with Tibetan and Nepalese thangka masters in the Bay Area and Nepal.

For my Project Space open studio at Headlands, I am creating an immersive contemplative environment where these works can be experienced together at different scales and over extended periods of time. During select weekend open houses, I’ll lead live guided meditations in the space.

The residency gives me a rare opportunity to explore one of the central questions behind Hidden Geometries: whether contemporary art can function in the way devotional art traditionally has—not simply conveying aesthetic or cultural information, but cultivating constructive states of mind.

Open studio hours:
Thursday through Sunday, 12–5pm
Headlands Center for the Arts, Building 944 Project Space, third floor
